General News - March 2002
16/3/2002
- Weed cutting continues on our site. A good effort has been made in the Moorhouse yard to clear the grass and weeds that grow in the middle of the yard and in front of the carriage shed. We also hope to trim the long grass at Ferrymead Station before Easter.
- On 16th March the track gang tamped all the relaid track in Moorhouse yard and replaced three more sleepers. It was quite a good effort for just four workers and a balky compressor. Sleepers have been laid out for the new trackwork in front of the carriage shed.
- The pedestrian crossing in Moorhouse station yard is being realigned so that it runs straight across the yard instead of at an angle.
- Easter this year will again feature "The Wind In The Willows" with Mark Hadlow on Saturday and Sunday. Our railway featured in last year's event and we will have several different trains running on the main running days of the weekend. DE 1429 will be operated on Friday and Saturday, W 192 will operate on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and RM 56 will run on Sunday and Monday.
- WD 357 has had all the boiler tubes blown out with compressed air.
- The City Council have started construction of a road for the Tamaki Maori Village on Wood Hill. The road passes through the former turning loop for trolley buses and then runs alongside our railway line. It is good to see the weeds being cleared from this area. The tower which has stood on the hill for so many years is to be shifted near to the Park entrance as a viewing platform.
- The Trolleython ran over the 24 hours of Friday to Saturday, 5.00 pm - 5.00 pm, 22 to 23 March.
