Canterbury Railway Society Inc News General News - March 2000 26/3/00 EO 39 (EA 1) is being repainted. Most of the electric poles are now in place for the overhead extension. The site cleanup crew has been working hard on Wednesday evenings to tidy the site. Rail is being collected from many places all over the site and being transported to a new rail stack behind the electric locomotive shed. Other works are continuing and may include cleaning out the area between the workshop and carriage shed, as the workshop is to be extended. Now that Daylight Saving is finished, the work will be carried out on Saturdays. Our track gang was hard at work this month replacing sleepers on the Moorhouse loop and repairing No. 7 points in the Moorhouse yard. Track was lifted and packed in the vicinity of No.7 points as it has dipped. The signals team are fitting new electronic control gear to the alarms at Clems Crossing. They also cleaned out the crossing keepers hut so it can be restored (see below). The Diesel Traction Group has fitted DE 1429 with a brand new set of batteries. (Yes - they really are new!). The DE's engine has been run several times since the batteries were fitted and the loco is currently undergoing a service check. |
