Ferrymead Railway Running Days
The Railway
currently operates each Sunday, and at other times as
arranged (such as public holidays). In normal service,
steam operates one Sunday per month, diesel locomotives (such
as the Diesel Traction Group's DE 1429 or the Ferrymead
Railway's TR 156) one Sunday per month, the Vulcan
railcars providing the remaining days' services.
During the
period October to April the Railway will normally operate
each Sunday, with additional Saturday or holiday
operations during some periods. During the winter period
running is reduced to twice or less per month with the
possibility of complete shutdown depending on maintenance
requirements. Steam is not normally operated during the
winter.
