3/82  350  Rounded Troughs Steel Hopper Cars. These cars were first ordered for the Cambria and Indiana Railroad Company. They were to be leased to the Corporation to haul coke. When the Corporation goes out of the coke business, 12" are to be cut off the top of each car, the the top angle reapplied and, the the cars put in coal service. Some where along the line, before the cars were built the order was changed and the Corporation bought the cars. The C&I is still to get the cars and convert them when the Corporation is done with them. They can be used only in restricted service as, they have no open hoppers and can only be unloaded by dumping.

 14,700,000

At the time the above table was compiled, the C&I has 956 cars in service. Series 160-199, 400-599 and 1600-1999, which account for 548 of the total, had been rebuilt at least fifteen years ago and had seen the best of their days. Most of them were still in interchange service but were slowly being pulled from service and at that time were up for sale if a good offer should come along. The above table came from George Warholic's Blacklick Township site.
