DRGW 5507 helps
share the load of this QNPWC as they begin the decent down Cima. I wanted
to continue west with them for awhile, but I was committed to spending
my time exploring the eastern slope, so I watched them as they slowly headed
west for a few minutes, before heading east myself to catch my next train.
Of course, now I have no idea what is coming or when, but in the 2 hours
on the hill, I had already seen 3 trains. A good start to be sure.
I made my way over to
the eastern slope, just a few miles behind me and decided to explore locations
I'd like to catch a train in, whether today or some other. I took my time
going over the east side and burned about an hour. If you have never been
out here you can see for miles, and with a pair of binoculars even further.
In fact from the first siding east of Cima, called Joshua, you can see
the entire line all the way back to Borax. That would be back in Nevada,
and close to 40 miles of track on one sweeping view!!! In other words,
no westbound is going to sneak up on you out here. I knew nothing was coming,
but could see a few engines sitting down in Nipton, so I made my way down,
exploring the line as I went.
I got all the way to
Nipton without a hint of a train, and when I got to Nipton I found a whole
bunch of MoW equipment being unloaded, for what was certainly going to
be a sizable project.
