Union Pacific's Steam Program is a wonderful benefit to all railfans. The chance to see mainline running of vintage steam is something to be cherished, and nothing less than magnificent. This page was originally created to highlight the trip of UP 3985 that was made in August 2000, between Cheyenne, WY and Los Angeles, CA., to the Democratic National Convention, where the UP 3985 was on display in Union Station. That year, I was fortunate enough to follow the train from Las Vegas, NV to Cajon, CA on August 5th and 6th. Then, again on August 24th from Milford, UT to Salt Lake City, UT. That trip vastly increased my interest in this spectacular machine, and has produced my desire to hopefully see it run once a year.
