The Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) was formed by merger
of the BN and Santa Fe in 1995. BNSF serves the western 2/3rds of the U.S.
with 32,000 route miles covering 28 states and two Canadian provinces. Their
name was officially changed to "BNSF Railway" in January 2005.

The middle axle is unpowered with "weight management control" where the middle
axle can lift via the extra cylinders and bell crank (inset) , thus
tranferring weight to the powered end axles. This produces the
same tractive effort as a 6-motor DC unit.
