11 | Paul Carver notes that as delivered all NYC passenger F3's were painted dark gray, with the light gray lightening stripe on the A units only.
55 | Bruce Bowden notes the train is westbound just beyond Prentice Street.
56 | Bruce Bowden questions Waltham location. I don't know, but Lawson wrote Waltham on the slide.
61 | Bottom | Bruce Bowden notes that both shots are at the same location just east of Roberts (now Brandeis). He (now admits) to climbing that signal tower in his younger days. |

62 | Bruce Bowden states, "I don't know about a Polaroid building, but this is a westbound taken from the bridge shown on pages 68-69. There was a whistle stop just beyond the train that put passengers within walking distance of the Waltham Watch factory. I have a string of slides taken at this exact location on a Sunday afternoon when the center axle broke on a Mogul. The wheel came off, but the engine remained righted. The bridge, long gone, connected South Street to the Mt. Feake Cemetery, where a number of my relatives are buried. These two shots are about a 1/4 mile west of the last two above."
70 | 5th Paragraph: Ron Salters notes that Brookline Jct. was located east of Beacon Park, not west.
77 | Regarding NYC F-M #3002, Paul Carver notes that the side stripe ended at its standard length as on the EMD F3a's, FTa's, and Alco FA's in their as delivered pre-l949 paint scheme. It had nothing to do with the shutter location.
84-85 | Top | Ron Salters notes that the Highland Branch tracks come in from the right side of the photo, not the left. (Opps!) |
86 | Bottom | Paul Carver notes that RS-3 #8239 is Inbound to Boston. |
111 | Paul Carver notes that two E8A and one E7B units had the green scheme; not three E8's.
126 | Ron Salters is correct in noting that the train pulled by NH DL-109 #0724 is coming from New York City, rather than going to NYC. (His correct memory) is that when you stand with the station at your back at Buzzards bay, the track to your left goes to Cape Cod, and that to your right, goes to inland points.
127 | Lawson had not indicated the exact location of this slide. However, an identical shot from slightly to the right by N.D. (Skipper) Clark is identified as North Truro, MA. This is found on page 204 in Chuck Crouse's "BUDD Car; The RDC Story", Weekend Chief Publishing. The Truro location is also confirmed by Henry D. Allen. |
