Photo Shoot on the Durango & Silverton

Trains Unlimited Tours Photo Special

In September 2006 I was on a Trains Unlimited Tours photo special on the Durango & Silverton narrow gauge railroad in Durango, Colorado. The tour included a shop and yard tour on September 28 and two days of riding and photography on the line from Durango to Silverton. The trip included an overnight stay at Silverton.

The train used DRGW 473 repainted in the Rio Grande's "Bumblebee" scheme from the 1950's, three boxcars, two flatcars and a caboose. Several coaches were used to transport the 80 or so folks on the trip.

The first day was just a tour of the shops, yard and a night photo shoot at the roundhouse and turntable. Also managed to photograph the day's trains returning from Silverton.
