Series 1000 - 1099

Once the DT&I assumed control of the Ann Arbor in 1963, they wasted little time applying their image in the form of compass heralds.  AA 1075 has a May 1963 reweigh date.  It uses the large pennant paint scheme with compass herald in its place.  Other cars had the small penant scheme with the compass herald on the left side of the car.  The Wabash-era practice of putting a space between the "1" and "0" was retained.

AA 41017

The DT&I Jackson, Ohio shop rebuilt AA 1017 in 1972.  This was a one-of-a-kind rebuild that was not repeated.  The car got a full length still and an 8-foot door.  Roller-bearings replaced the original solid-bearings on the trucks.  The car was renumbered 41017 and was painted in a scheme similar to the 50-foot cars of the era with a larger compass herald.  The only photo of this car shows it in revenue service.  It was of the roster after 1972.
