To help out during the iron ore season the Ann Arbor leased four Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad RS-3’s between December 1964 and March 1965. The four 1600 horsepower locomotives, basically the road switcher version of the Ann Arbor’s FA-2’s, saw service all over the AA. The AA also leased two other LS&I locomotives between December 1967 and March 1968, No. 1611 (another RS-3) and No. 1804 (a six-axle RSD-12).
