Detroit, Feb. 26 – The Detroit, Hillsdale and South-western have been combined under one management, and working arrangements have been agreed upon with the Fort Wayne and Jackson Railroad for interchange of traffic, both freight and passengers, upon a strict pro rata basis. The connection is made at Bankers, the present terminus of the Detroit, Hillsdale and South-western, and opens to the new combination a line southerly through Indiana by way of the Fort Wayne and Muncie, which will include Indianapolis and all the south-west portions of the greatest tobacco, corn, and hog producing region in the West. The owners of the combined lines have voted to construct an extension from Ypsilanti to Detroit. The combination will give to Detroit a competing line to Toledo and Central Ohio – an advantage which it lost when Mr. Vanderbilt became possessor of the Canada Southern.

The iron on the Detroit and Butler railroad is now (Tuesday) laid within two miles of this place [Milan], and they expect to past thought here on Thursday, (Thanksgiving day,)
The probabilities are that the depot for the Butler road will be located at the crossing of the Toledo and Ann Arbor and also that the T. & A. A. depot will be moved to the same place.

The grading on the Detroit and Butler railroad is completed from Detroit to Adrian, and the iron laid to Milan.

Work on the Toledo, Ann Arbor & North Eastern Railroad is progressing to rapid completion between this city and South Lyon.

The line of the Toledo & Ann Arbor railroad passes through the grounds of the Orchard Lake military academy, on the Pine lake side. Work in that spot began last Monday, and it is expected that trains will snorting through to Pontiac by December 1.

The construction train on the D, B, & St, L. Ry., which has been located here for some time will move on to Ridgeway this week. The train consists of several boarding and sleeping cars, besides the usual equipment for such work.

The Toledo and Ann Arbor railroad company is now reaping their harvest of freight, being unable to supply one-half the demand for cars, and nearly every freight train is several hours late, in consequence of the incapacity of the engine to draw the heavy trains over the road

The Toledo, Ann Arbor and Grand Trunk railroad company has built a bridge across the Huron at Ann Arbor. 980 feet long, at a cost of $12,000.

Sixty men arrived here on Monday last, and are putting in the 'Ys" at the crossing of the D, B. & St, L, and T, A, A, & G. T. railroads, and as soon as completed, it is expected a regular train from Detroit to Toledo, via Milan, will be placed on the road, in the interest of the Wabash R, R, who will controls it.

One of the contractors on the T. A. A. & G. T.R. R., S. B. Thompson, left this city last Monday morning with about 100 men, for the south, where the intend to work on the leves at Grelanville, Miss. - [Courier]
