This car has quite a storied history, being one of the first full-length "Super Dome" cars in America! Built in 1952 for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific (The Milwaukee Road) and numbered 52, it was used on their famous "Olympian Hiawatha" train. The car when built, featured 68 seats in the dome level and a lower level cafe with 28 more seats. In 1965, the car was acquired by Canadian National Railway and was renumbered 2405 and named "Columbia" and was used on their "Super Continental" and "Panorama" trains. Sold to VIA Rail Canada in 1978, the car was renumbered 2705. Purchased by Tour Alaska and renumbered 7090 (800481) in 1983 and named "Mount McKinley". In 1989 was used by Princess Tours for their "California Sun Express" before being purchased by Amtrak in 1990. Under Amtrak ownership, the car was converted to HEP from Steam-Heat, renumbered 9311 and would operate on the Auto Train until 1995 when it was then sold to the Wine Train and renumbered 1085 and named "Champagne". The car today features dining tables and a bar/service area on the upper level and a full kitchen on the lower level.
