This car was built in 1956 for the Santa Fe Railway as a high-level lounge car. Conveyed to Amtrak in 1971, it wore the number 9974. The car was converted from Steam Heat to HEP in 1982 and renumbered 39974. Today, these cars (Amtrak owns 5) are used exclusively as First Class Lounge cars on the Coast Starlight. The cars feature the following amenities: Lounge Seating, Couches, Dining Tables, a Theater on the lower level and a Library on one end of the car.
