Built for Amtrak in 1993 by General Electric Transportation Systems of Erie, PA, this unit worked nationwide before eventually becoming surplus power and being stored in 2003. Thanks to funds from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (Economic Stimulus Money), this unit, along with 14 others, were selected to be rebuilt and placed back into service.
