Built by Budd in 1948 for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railway for use on the "California Zephyr" as a Dome-Dormatory-Coffee Shop car that provided overnight accomodations for the train's staff. The car was originally named "Silver Lounge". Conveyed to Amtrak in 1971, and renumbered 9811, it would operate on Amtrak until 1980 and would subsequently be retired in October 1981. The car would end up in private ownership under the Vandalia Railroad and would eventually be sold to its current owner who would do a complete rebuild of the car. The dorm was replaced with bedrooms, the coffee shop replaced with an observation lounge and an open platform was added. The dome now seats 16 for lounge and dining service.
