Built by Budd in 1950 as a 10 Roomette-6 Double Bedroom Dleeper for the Southern Pacific for use on the Los Angeles-New Orleans "Sunset Limited" and numbered 9020. Conveyed to Amtrak in 1971 and renumbered 2696. Converted to a Handicap-Accessible Sleeper and converted to Head-End Power from Steam Heat in September 1980 and renumbered 2451. The name "Birch Grove" was applied to the car by Amtrak when the car was converted to HEP. Amtrak retired and placed the car up for sale in July 1995. The car eventually sat in Nashville, TN and Birmingham, AL until 2001 when the current owners purchased it and had it moved to Sea Island Passenger Service in Bellevue, OH. Between 2001 and 2005, the car was totally rebuilt and upgraded. Historical Information about this car provided by AAPRCO, amtrakbythenumbers.com. |
