GENERAL: Amtrak's current primary road unit. Amtrak purchased 207 of these units and are a regular site on most all long-distance as well as many short-distance trains across the country. Some operate in "push-pull" mode with one unit on each end of the train. |

SPECS: These units, designated "Genesis II" were built by General Electric Transportation Systems in Erie, Pennsylvania starting during the mid-1990's through late 2001. Each unit is equipped with a 4250 horsepower prime mover and DC Traction Motors. Among the other amenities are an LCD display in the cab which is set up more like a desk of sorts. |

TERRITORY: These units can be found operating all over Amtrak's system on trains of any length. |

NOTES: These units were delivered in 2 orders. Units #1-122 were delivered first in Phase III then Phase IV paint. #123-207 were delivered in Phase Va or "shamu" paint, sporting Amtrak's now current logo. From #169 on, a simplified version of the "shamu" paint was applied on all new units until the order was completed and all existing units as they went in for painting. This is known as Phase Vb. All units are now in Phase Vb paint. |
