Built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division in February 1942 for the New York Central Railroad and numbered 703. Under Penn Central ownership, it was renumbered 8499. Acquired by Amtrak from the Penn Central and initially numbered 250. Renumbered 737 in 1977 to make way for new EMD F40PH locomotives. This unit is the only remaining SW1 operating on Amtrak and at one time operated as the Wilmington Shops switcher.
