This car was originally built as a 50 seat coach for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railway. Conveyed to Amtrak in 1971, the car was connverted into a Dining Car in and renumbered 8711. Converted to HEP from Steam Heat in June 1985, the car today wears the number 8531. You can see where the vestibule used to be located on the car on the right side by the presense of the bolts in the stainless steel near the roof of the car. The car originally had the name "Silver Bit" but as a diner today doesn't sport a car name. Historical Information about this car provided by www.amtrakbythenumbers.com..
