This car was originally built as a 44 seat coach for the Union Pacific Railroad and operated as a coach for Amtrak, originally assigned the number 4459. The car was converted from Steam Heat to HEP in September 1980 and renumbered 4636. In 1997, the car was renumbered 1736 and converted into a Baggage/Mail car with the interior gutted and the windows plated over with a single sliding door installed in the center of the car on each side. The car did retain its original vestibule on one end however the steps that fold out for access to the vestibule on most cars have been replaced by small foot ladders (for crew access) as these cars don't have passengers boarding from them any longer.
