Built by Siemens Mobility in Sacramento, CA in August 2013 and numbered 603, these locomotives are the replacement for Amtrak's AEM-7 electric locomotives for use on the Northeast Corridor. The name "ACS-64" means "Amtrak Cities Sprinter" and the 64 represents 6.4 megawatts of electric power which is equivalent to 8600 horsepower. Niagara Falls is not on the Northeast Corridor, rather this rare photo was taken when this unit was waiting there to head east for testing at Alstom's facilities in Hornell, NY. Historical information about this locomotive provided by www.amtrakbythenumbers.com.
