Scenic Photos Of Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited: 2010-Present
Train #48 arriving at Buffalo-Depew Station on February 19th, 2010 with a full Superliner consist. It had this consist due to a freight derailment in Indiana which caused Amtrak to put this train set together so as to keep the train running that day.
Passing through Lancaster, NY is Train #48 with P42DC #130 on the lead on June 25th, 2010.
Train #49 cooling off at Buffalo-Depew Station on July 3rd, 2010. This photo is actually 2 photos that were "combined" together using Adobe Photoshop using something called a "Layer Mask" which allows for a more even exposure by combining the best parts of 2 photos and coming up with a single product. I now use this combined photo method on many night photos.
Train #49 arriving at Buffalo-Depew Station on Independence Day July 4th, 2010. This is an example of a photo trick I once saw in a popular railroad magazine. This was a 3 minute time exposure with the train passing by as it entered the station. I just felt like trying something different with night photography, almost looks like "High-Speed Rail"!!!
Train #48 taking a break at Cleveland, OH just before sunrise on July 10th, 2010 with P42DC #207 on the head end. The 2nd track that passed by the station (would have been on the left side of the train) was torn up by CSX several years ago. This view was from the East 9th Street overpass with the local RTA station on the right with Cleveland Browns Stadium in the background.
Train #49 backing into Chicago Union Station with P42DC #21 on the lead on October 18th, 2010. This train was over an hour late when it arrived into Chicago. This view is from Roosevelt Avenue and was taken with an 18-200mm zoom lens.
Train #49 taking a break at Buffalo-Depew Station with P40DC #832 on the lead. 15 P40's were refurbished and placed back into service using American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (Economic Stimulus) funds. Tonight's train had #832 and #818 for power, something very rare today! The train was seen on Saturday, March 19th, 2011 at 12:53am.
Tonight's Lake Shore had special Phase I-painted P42DC #156 on the lead. This is one of a series of locomotives painted in Amtrak's four prior paint schemes to celebrate its 40th Anniversary which will take place in 2011. Thus this is the first unit painted in Phase I paint since the 1970's. The train is seen at Buffalo-Depew Station at 12:46am on March 22nd, 2011.
Due to a bridge problem in Albany, Train #49 left Albany-Rensselaer Station significantly behind schedule. The end result was it arrived at Buffalo-Depew Station at 11:00am, running 11 hours and 5 minutes late. This is by far the latest I've ever seen this train at this station! Today's train had P42DC #40 ont the lead, seen on May 18th, 2011.
