The Coast Starlight -
Take a trip of a lifetime on one of Amtrak's most scenic trains
The following pictures gives you a small taste of what you can expect to see
outside the window of the Coast Starlight, which runs from Los Angeles to
Seattle, en route visiting
such cities as Portland, Ore., Salem, Ore., Sacramento, Calif., San Francisco,
Oakland, Calif., San Jose, Calif., and Santa Barbara, Calif.
Along the route, the train hugs the shore of the Pacific Ocean, rolls through America's salad bowl in the Salinas Valley, rolls along the San Fransisco Bay between San Jose and Oakland, crosses rivers, traverses spectacular mountain and forest areas in the northern California Sierras.
Wake up on your journey north to a view of Mount Shasta illuminated in the pre-dawn light. Run through southern Oregon's beautiful forests and mountain ranges. Parallel a major lake and river as you head north to Portland. Cross the Columbia River and speed to Seattle, one of America's most progressive cities.
These are only the beginning of pictures of the famed train.
More will be added in the future. Click on thumbnail images for larger views..
