City of Los Angeles, 16th Train, 1950

Pullman-Standard received an order from UP for 30 Mail-storage/Baggage cars in 1941. The cars were delivered in 1942 and numbered 5601-5630. As far as I can tell these cars were delivered in Challenger colors and assigned to Challenger trains. Kratville refers to these cars as "Mail Storage" cars, while Randall lists them as "Baggage" cars. The PS drawing lends more credence to the term "Baggage" than "Mail Storage".

COLA 16

The car in the COLA 16th train was #5620.

Laser Kit #1000 is a model of UP road #5631. This is, externally, essentially the same car as the 5600-series, although it was made by ACF. The major difference is the number of windows in the doors (5600 has 4 while 5631 has 1). Furthermore the ACF car does not have skirts and the grab irons are place a little differently. The 5631 is 3 inches shorter than the 5600 (about 0.035 inches in H0 scale).
