Running trains at Jeff's, December 3, 2011 (6:26)
This is the latest showing progress on my new layout with the Bigboy and new Challenger. My hot rod buds came over last Saturday to see that layout and a wreck. They got what they came for! lol
Jeff Hill was one of the newest members of the Virginia Central Division of the Atlantic Coast S Gaugers when he helped form the Tidewater Division. Jeff lives in Newport News, Virginia. This is a video of his new layout currently under construction. (3:42)
This is an overall view of Jeff's previous layout. The layout was in his garage and Jeff had it on ropes which were connected to a boat hoist motor. With this gear Jeff was able to pull the layout up to the ceiling when it was not in use.
This is a view looking toward the rear yard. Looks like the crews will be busy today making trains up in the yard.
Here's a wider view of the front yard. The "Flyonel" Santa Fe streamliner enters the yard as an American Models Southern RR Crescent Limited prepares to come down from the trestle. This Santa Fe set is probably one of the best Lionel produced.
This side view of the yard shows the variety of equipment run on Jeff's layout.
Two of Lionels best looking trains on the main line. The Santa Fe Alcos included detail not included on Gilbert's Diesels. The freight on the outside track is being pulled by two Southern Pacific Geeps. Gilbert designed some good looking, tough toy trains. The American Models pacific on the trestle has all the great features of Gilbert steam, plus whistle, bell, quiet run can motor, and much improved detail.
We finish our visit at Jeff's layout with a close-up of what may be every Gilbert fan's favorite locomotive, a 4-8-4 Northern.
