Bill Mixon | Chris Johnson

Chris has created a western flavor for his vintage American Flyer operation. It is the late 50's. The town scene could be any small, but growing town along the old Rt. 66 corridor. The famed Sante Fe with it's beautiful Chief line, and the great Union Pacific railroad serve the town. A barren bluff is the backdrop for the western side of the community. To the east, the landscape turns greener.
Nearly all of the layout is comprised of items from Chris' 1950s layout. It features many lighted Plasticville buildings, and Chris will be adding many scratch-built buildings in the future. The L-shaped layout is 24' X 12' with two parallel operating loops. Another separate loop to be added in the near future will serve a yet-to-be-developed small scale industrial area.
This is the first time since Christmas 1959 that his trains have run together. Albert P. Johnson, Chris' father, was a maintenance foreman for the Pennsylvania RR in the Youngstown, Ohio region. There, the PRR, NYC, Erie, B&O, and P&LE ran through the Mahoning River Valley serving one of the largest steel producing areas in the country.
Chris thanks his friends in the W&OD Division of the Atlantic Coast S Gaugers for helping him get back into model railroading.
