The Carolinas Division set up the Super 8 layout at the
North Carolina Transportation Museum
during the weekends of December 2011 for the Santa Train event.
The layout was set up in the classroom in the roundhouse, near where
Santa was holding court.
This is an overview of the layout in the classroom. (1:03)
A coal train is racing down the hill as Moms and kids enjoy the accessories.
Families enjoyed watching the three trains in motion almost continuously.
A young fellow watching the American Flyer 303 Atlantic pulling a freight train
with a load of candy canes.
The classroom would be full of families enjoying the layout.
Watch the kids having fun watching the trains and operating the accessories. (4:47)
Santa even visited to watch the trains and play with the accessories and
check to see if anyone was to get American Flyer for Christmas.
Moms and kids enjoyed discovering what happened with the push of a blue button.
What does this button do??
Watch the mixed freight train with the walking brakeman on top of the box car, the cattle train with many cows going to market, and the passenger train. (1:08)
All the buttons and the attached accessories had a lot of play time.
The one American Flyer transformer in the foreground powers all three trains
and accessories while other transformers power the switches and lights.
There were many photos taken by Mom of kids playing at the layout.
Oooooh! Look! There's a blue lizard on the roof of that house!
Families of all shapes and sizes enjoyed the layout. (5:05)
The cattle train is entering into the lower siding as the passenger train
waits at the upper station.
Kids of all ages watched the trains and enjoyed the layout.
Dad is playing with the accessories on this end of the layout as the kids
play with the accessories in the middle.
The little kids get to view the trains at eye level.

Thank you to Heidi and Marvin Thiel and Margot and Butch Henion for the pictures and videos.
