Minutes of the 2009 Membership Meetings

Potomac Chapter, National Railway Historical Society, Inc.

November 17, 2009

Montgomery County Executive Office Building

The meeting was called to order by President Gordy Bjoraker at 8:15 p.m. Attendance was 38.

Bill Holdsworth read h the minutes of the previous meeting.

Jay Creswell gave the treasurer's report, detailing the previous month's expenses.

Rick Davidson reminded membrs about the dues renewal.

John Morris reported that the nomination committee had assembled a slate of norminees for the coming year, which was:

There were no nominations from the floor. Members passed a motion to elect the slate as proposed by acclamation.

John reported on the Perryville excursion on Veterans Day.

The meeting adjourned about 8:30 p.m.

Other Notes from the Meeting

Mermbers observed a moment of silence in memory of Howard Abernethy.

Carl Franz reported that the succssful effort to rebuild the barn on Helmstetter's Curve.

After the intermission, members enjoyed a film presentation by August Thieme.


October 20, 2009

Montgomery County Executive Office Building

The meeting was called to order by Secretary Bill Holdsworth at 8:05 p.m. Attendance was 41.

Members dispensed with the minutes of the previous meeting. There was no treasurer's report.

John Morris reported on the nominating committee.

The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.

September 15, 2009

Montgomery County Executive Office Building

The meeting was called to order by President Gordy Bjoraker. Attendance was 34.

Jay Creswell gave the treasurer's report, detailing August expenses. Jay reported that 17 people attend the chapter picnic August 29.

Rick Davidson presented a 25-year pin to Curt Elie.

The meeting adjourned at 8:29 p.m.

Carl Franz reported on the fund-raising efforts to restore the barn on Helmstetter's farm along the former Western Maryland Railway.

After the intermission, members enjoyed a talk by a CSX policeman.


July 21, 2009

Montgomery County Executive Office Building

The meeting was called to order by Secretary Bill Holdsworth. Attendance was 31.

Members were reminded about the chapter picnic August 29.

John Morris reported on the trip to the Station Inn at Cresson, PA July 10-11.

Other Notes from the Meeting

Carl Franz reported on the fire which destroyed the barn on Helmstetter's farm along the former Western Maryland Railway.

After the intermission, members enjoyed a Pentrex film featuring Milwaukee Road electric operations through scenic areas of Montana and other regions


June 16, 2009

Montgomery County Executive Office Building

The meeting was called to order by Secretary Bill Holdsworth at 8:02 p.m. Attendance was 43.

Jay Creswell gave the treasurer's report. The deficit for the month of May was $567. Members dispensed with the reading of the minutes.

Jay reported on the plans for the chapter picnic August 29.

John Morris reminded members of the trip to the Station Inn at Cresson, PA, scheduled for July 10-11.

Clay Moritz reported on the memorial arrangements for Bob Truax and discussed his contributions to the chapter.

The meeting adjourned at 8:19 p.m.

Montgomery County Executive Office Building

The meeting was called to order by President Gordy Bjoraker at 8:10 p.m. Attendance was 23.

Bill Holdsworth read the minutes of the previous meeting and an excerpt from the treasurer's report.

Bob Cohen announced that the chapter picnic will be Aug. 29.

John Morris reminded members of the trip to the Station Inn at Cresson, PA, scheduled for July 10-11. If nine people participate, the accomodations will cost $35 per night for two nights.

The meeting was called to order by Secretary Bill Holdsworth at 8:12 p.m. Attendance was 35.

Jay Creswell gave the treasurer's report.

Bill reported that the banquet was a success.

Rick Davidson briefed members on activities of the national board of directors.

John Morris said that the trip to the Station Inn at Cresson, PA, is scheduled for July 10-11. If nine people participate, the accomodations will cost $35 per night for two nights.

The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.

Members view the winners from all categories of the slide contest and voted for the grand prize winner.

Carl Franz showed films from the 1970s.


March 17, 2009

Montgomery County Executive Office Building

The meeting was called to order by President Gordy Bjoraker at 8:06 p.m. Attendance was 32.

Bill Holdsworth read the minutes of the February meeting.

Jay Creswell gave a brief treasurer's report.

Fred Krochmal invited members to donate door prizes for the upcoming banquet.

John Morris asked members for input concerning a possible overnight trip to the Station Inn at Cresson, PA, July 11-12.

The meeting adjourned at 8:16 p.m.

Alex Mayes said that he had four entrants for the March slide contest so far.

The activities committee is planning an overnight trip to the Station Inn at Cresson, PA, July 11-12.
